A scheduled change at the head of NürnbergMesse’s Supervisory Board: as 2022 begins, Nuremberg Mayor Marcus König will assume the board’s chair from Albert Füracker, Bavaria’s Minister of Finance and Home Affairs. Füracker in turn will become the board’s Deputy Chairman. König has been a member of the company’s Supervisory Board since February 2018, and views the chairmanship as both a challenge and a matter of the heart: “NürnbergMesse is not just an economic engine for our city and the entire Metropolitan Region, but also an important employer. Over the next few years we want to position the company in the best possible way for the exhibition formats of the future, so that it can continue its long-standing pre-pandemic success story.”
The principal shareholders of NürnbergMesse exchange chairmanships of its Supervisory Board every three years, as the chair rotates back and forth between the Free State of Bavaria and the City of Nuremberg. Bavarian Minister Albert Füracker, who will take over as the board’s Deputy Chairman at the beginning of 2022, believes this procedure is a good example of how closely intermeshed the state’s and the city’s shared interests really are. “NürnbergMesse’s positive economic impact and charisma extend far beyond the city limits. All of Bavaria benefits from the international trade fairs and conferences that are held here in Nuremberg. NürnbergMesse’s diverse range of events also stands for more than 15,000 full-time jobs in countless sectors of the economy. We all hope that 2022 will enable us to go back to a more lively trade fair business, and that NürnbergMesse will be able to continue building vigorously on its successful record.”
The Supervisory Board
The Supervisory Board of NürnbergMesse GmbH comprises five representatives each from the company’s two principal shareholders, the Free State of Bavaria and the City of Nuremberg. These members are joined by one representative each from the Nuremberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Middle Franconia and the Chamber of Trades for Middle Franconia, along with six representatives of the employees of NürnbergMesse GmbH, for a total of 18 members.
